AMBER ALE - EQUILIBRIUM
5.1% ABV

This deep Amber Ale is a meeting of minds, a balance of classic malts and exotic hops. The sweet malts give a rich caramel base to the warm orange and apricot notes of the hops to create a luscious and hearty beer.

Most of our first beers have been very hop - forward or based around a dominant feature like blackberries. With this beer we wanted to create a malt sensation. We wanted something sweet and full bodied, deep amber and utterly satisfying. So on top of a Pale Ale malt (Maris Otter) base we added generous quantities of Munich and Melanoiden malts for rich flavours and colour, along with the classic british Caramalt for sweetness and finished off with just a hint of chocolate malt.

Our Malt comes from Warminster Maltings, a traditional Victorian floor malt house just down the road in Wiltshire. They produce the finest malts available and are a thoroughly nice bunch.

As mentioned above we wanted this to be a malt sensation, but even a malty beer needs a good load of hops thrown in to balance it. We chose a lovely gentle hop from Australia called Summer. It's full of flavours we feel compliment the malt well, like sweet apricots and honey.

We then dry hopped the beer with Amarillo for those delicious floral, orange and pine notes that again are used to set off the malt flavours rather than dominating the taste profile.

YEAST

Fermented with a blend of Safale S-05 and S-04 yeasts

BOTTLE CONDITIONED

This beer is bottle conditioned. This means that instead of filtering all the yeast out of the beer and injecting CO2 to make it fizz, we keep the yeast in and let the beer go through a secondary fermentation in the bottle. It's the same process Champagne  makers use. It creates it’s own natural carbon dioxide resulting in a light fizz that we think is a more refined texture and mouthfeel. The beer is alive. It is unfiltered, un-fined and unpasteurized.

The process does leave some yeast sediment in the bottom, so pour in one smooth motion if you want to leave it in the bottle.

BREWED

By Wiper and True at Ashley Down Brewery, Bristol. If you ever go to visit you'll find Vince Crocker banging on about "Balance, me ol matey, balance." Over the many brews he has been kind enough to let us put on there, something has sunk in, and this beer is an attempt to show we are listening Vince!

STORAGE

Store upright in a cool dark place.

CLOUDY?

We use the finest ingredients possible and avoid any unnecessary chemicals or processing aids. We do not pasteurize, filter or clear our beers with synthesised chemicals. The result is that they don’t always have perfect clarity, but we feel this is a sacrifice worth making for keeping anything unnatural out of our beer.

This beer is vegan friendly.
